“House Republicans are scrutinizing a wide array of existing and proposed Obama administration regulations in areas as diverse as the environment and Wall Street, and they are taking guidance from industry groups that say the rules threaten jobs.”
While I agree in principle with such a review, connecting it with "jobs" casts it as politically motivated from the start. My trust level in this process is lukewarm at best. I hope to find a reason to change my mind.
Regulations in most cases affect profit amounts and timeframes. These in turn may or may not affect hiring at all. If businesses want to remove regulations that impact profits, then they should say that. With transparency and respect.
The key questions: Is it the government’s job to create jobs, or merely to create conditions for their formation? The latter. Do businesses exist by one bottom line, or are their additional measures of the creation of wealth which must be considered? Both.
